What is "Healing Art" and "Energy Paintings" ?

You have probably come across this term, healing art or energy healing paintings. No? Well it is a fairly new phenomena that is happening to artists; especially those artists that also are involved with healing work, such as Reiki, etc.  I feel as though this energy involved with healing has merged into the art.

Art and healing have merged!  Dr. Michael Samuels , a pioneer in this field, has researched and written about this topic extensively.  I just don't think he meant it quite this way.  It has long been documented that the creative process of various art forms has a measured effect on ones healing process and being exposed to art in all its forms can be very therapeutic. Art therapy has been used by professionals in a variety of therapeutic settings; ie hospitals, cancer treatment, etc. But, this usual involves the patient in the doing of the art.  What I and other healing artists are doing now are creating art that emanates its own subtle therapeutic energy to wherever it is placed.  Wow!  I am so in awe of this; amazing to say the least.  I have no idea how long it continues to emanate this energy, but, I can tell you this, it appears to be ongoing.
Thats it for now, til later,

Getting ready for Art Maui 2010 exhibition 2/14/10

Getting ready for Art Maui 2010 exhibition

Yes....its that time of year again....busy painting for the big Art Maui 2010  juried exhibition.  This will be the 32nd year for this major...at least for Maui, show.  Not many exhibition opportunities on this island so will have to make the best of it.  Its always an amazing event, no matter if one gets accepted or not.  I find it refreshing to see so much diverse talent that is not the same old, same old, we see in the local touristy commercial galleries.
I  just uploaded some new art on my site...go take a look and leave some feedback if you like.

Happy painting,

Helena

Experimental or Conventional 12/2/09

I like experimenting with my art...whether its with the paint, paper, support, brushes, non brushes, removing layers, textures.....using the same materials in unconventional ways....I was reading someones blog the other day and he was referencing an author's book about there being basically two types of artists: experimental and conventional..    I had not really thought about it before....but it does make a lot of sense. Perhaps that's why I prefer the abstract genre...as I can create something new....I have no interest in replicating something that already exists.  Mind you, I didn't go into this consciously, just noticing what is.  Please know that I can certainly appreciate the skill of artists that do replicate, even if it is their own interpretation.....this goes for musicians as well.  I'm just exploring what drives us...Where does that propensity come from?  It is making me think how this apply's to many walks of life, not just conventional or experimental artists, but also in the broader scope of life!  I think it is  important for us to honor and acknowledge each others path whether or not we personaly understand it or not; or for that matter agree with it!  Just makes you think; at least me1 Anyone want to comment and add to these thoughts are welcome.   I hope I can find that blog again. I forgot to save it.    Just remembering, in a former life I was involved with songwriting, and collaborated with some musicians with my lyrics....anyhow....I remember being puzzled why a musician would just do covers and be satisfied with that??#@     Know I think I'm starting to get closer to the answer.
